Steamboy is one of the coolest steampunk movies I've seen. An anime from 2004, it takes place in a steam-powered world where technology doesn't need electricity. Typical Victorian undertones. I highly recommend everyone see it.

I finally got the DVD some time ago and I can say that I wholeheartedly second that recommendation. The plot is, of course, a bit thin. This is to be expected, as Katsuhiro Otomo has to show us an entire Steampunk-world in a movie that is barely longer than two hours*. And a fine Steampunk-world it is! The designs are incredible. Simply incredible. Not only the innards of the Steam Castle**, but also London and the countryside are marvellous.
My main gripe with the movie was how annoying Scarlett is.

* A common problem in Speculative Fiction as well.
** Steam Tower in some versions.
